Recruitment, Orientation and Pre-Test Training for the CPAT

This all-day seminar will focus on recruitment, orientation, pre-test fitness training and mentoring programs for the IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability test. Learn how different fire departments approach the CPAT in order to effectively prepare entry-level candidates -- particularly women and people of color -- for success.

We will present an overview of the CPAT, followed by a review of effective recruitment strategies. Learn how each fire department represented has developed orientation and pre-test training programs aimed at increasing the physical fitness and technique of their candidates. Panelists will also present information about mentoring programs that exceed the minimum guidelines outlined by the CPAT Task Force.

This workshop will be held at the Parker Fire Protection District's training facility. Buses from the hotel will be provided; be prepared to leave before 8 a.m. (The exact departure time will be indicated in your confirmation letter, if you register for this session.) After the presentations, participants will view the CPAT equipment and given the option to receive test-taking tips and run through each of the test elements. Comfortable clothing and gym shoes are recommended.
