Firefighting in the Rockies

Come experience live fire and drillground training that will help you develop a strong command presence as well as practice fireground skills. We will emphasize developing individual skills such as initial size-up reports, radio communications, deploying resources, developing strategies and tactics, achieving tactical benchmarks, May Day communications, and activation of Rapid Intervention Crews. Not only will you get command experience, you will also get to sharpen and practice firefighting skills performing both engine and truck company operations.

This class is devoted to ensuring that you, regardless of rank or experience, gain skills and confidence in the job. We will be using "bread and butter" scenarios that will both challenge you and improve your decision-making on fire scenes.

Bring a co-worker! We will ensure that you get to work on the same team in order to reinforce the lessons learned.

IMPORTANT: This workshop will take place at the Boulder Fire Department's training facility. The bus from the Adam's Mark Hotel to the training site will leave at 7:30 a.m. If you are not on the bus and can not improvise your own transportation at the last minute, you will miss the workshop. No refunds will be given to would-be attendees who miss the bus!

Attendees are strongly urged to bring their own NFPA-compliant personal protective equipment, including helmet, hood, bunker coat, bunker pants, fire boots and gloves. SCBA will be provided. A very limited amount of PPE will be available to borrow at the site; availability in all needed sizes is not guaranteed.

Limited to 24 attendees. Those signing up as teams will be given preference.
